Youth Programming

Youth Programming

YWCA Hamilton offers programs that are person-centered. Programs and practices are developed around evidenced-based trauma responsive care models. YWCA Hamilton uses a person-centered trauma responsive approach to guide service delivery. Due to the nature and intimacy of group settings, any suspicion or disclosure of abuse and/or trauma will be reported and referred for supportive services.

FIERCE Girls

Fearless | Independent | Educated | Resilient | Confident | Engaged

YWCA Hamilton leads in-school sessions of small groups of girls, grades 6 through 12. YWCA Hamilton has selected a research-based curriculum, Girls Circle, that uses gender-responsive circle models and interventions that are designed based on evidence-based principles and practices, incorporating Motivational Interviewing, Cultural Responsivity, Strengths-Based approaches, and Trauma-Responsive practices. Themes and topics are introduced which relate to the girls’ lives, such as being a girl, trusting ourselves, friendships, body image, goals, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, competition, social media, and decision-making.

Men of HONOR

Men of Honor is a strengths-based youth model developed by One Circle Foundation that empowers young men by helping them find community and belonging, while building assets in their life. Men of Honor also allows an opportunity to engage in conversations about masculinity beliefs and their role in public health and safety risks. The Men of Honor program targets young men in grades 7th to 12th. Sessions can include such topics as masculinity, emotions, leadership, and respect. These sessions will help build healthy beliefs about their roles as men. Participation in this group does require parental permission.
