2019 Gingerbread Village House Contest

You are invited to submit an edible entry to our annual Gingerbread Village! Houses will be displayed at YWCA Hamilton during the German Village Christmas Walk, December 1st, 2019 from 12:00pm-5:00pm.
 
Entry Fees per house:
  • Family & Children $10
  • Team or Individual $25
  • Nonprofit $50
  • Business $100

Awards will be given in each category:
  • Family & Children: Family friendly prize pack
  • Team or Individual: $250 prize!
  • Business: Win a catered lunch for the office & bragging rights

Houses must be delivered to YWCA Hamilton by 4pm on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29th to be included in the contest. No houses will be accepted without prior registration.

Guidelines & Rules 

Family & Team
  • Gingerbread houses should be made with edible materials only. Think safe-to-eat items.
  • Use a solid and sturdy base such as heavy cardboard, wood, etc. and cover so that moisture cannot weaken the base. Base size should not exceed 15”x15”.
  • Structures should not exceed 24” in height
  • No batteries or electrical components 
  • No inedible decorative items or props
  • Royal Icing only. (egg and butter icings will spoil quickly)
  • Use only items that don’t require refrigeration (ex. No whipped cream)
  • Contestants must be able to unload gingerbread houses, staff in unavailable to assist

Nonprofit & Business
  • No size restrictions for a business entry, BUT it should be able to fit through our front door, YWCA staff is unable to assist  
  • Gingerbread houses should be made with edible materials (interior supports and props excluded)
  • Royal Icing only. (egg and butter icings will spoil quickly)
  • Use only items that don’t require refrigeration (ex. No whipped cream)

Display
Efforts will be made to display entries to their best advantage. However, some interiors or backs of houses may not be viewable on display. Houses that are not structurally sound or do not meet guidelines will not be displayed or eligible for award.
